Shrubs

Wykeham Mature Plants have a wide range of shrubs selected for all year round interest and all produced in larger than normal sizes from 1 metre to 3.5 metres high to create an effect of maturity in an instant.

Trees – Specimens

Wykeham Mature Plants produce an excellent range of larger trees for immediate effect with trees up to six metres tall available from stock.

These days due to advancements in growing techniques most of our trees are available container grown which has a mumber of advantages:-

  • They are available all year round.
  • They are much easier to transplant than traditional field grown stock.
  • Most importantly they are much easier to handle than traditional root balled trees.

The really big root balled trees are very heavy (about one tonne each), and have to be mechanically handled at all times so we recommend using our planting service.

Key: Tree sizes and abbreviations

Most of our trees are measured by girth (circumference) in centimetres at one metre above ground level, eg. 12/14 and 14/16 which conforms to European standards. Fortunately as a rule of thumb the girth size roughly equates to the height in feet. Where the size is indicated as follows: 150/175 this represents the height of the plant material in centimetres, ie, the plant is 150cm to 175 cm cm above ground level.

Further abbreviatins used are:-

  • FTD = Feathered. The plant has branches from of near to ground level all the way up the stem.
  • MLT = Multi stemmed. This is a tree that has two of more trunks from ground level.
  • Std + Standard. This tree has a clear unbranched trunk up to a height of approximetly 175 cm.
  • Bsh = Bush. Bushy in shape.

Contract Growing

Wykeham Instants contract growing service is the ideal way to meet your needs for exactly the right quantity and quality of trees and shrubs, precisely when you want them. Contract growing for planting schemes of all sizes and time-spans is available on request.
